Enduring Power of Guardianship PDF Print E-mail

This differs from a power of attorney as it gives power to someone to make decisions for you about where you live, what medical and dental treatment you have and other personal matters. You can include specific medical directions so that your guardian knows your wishes regarding medical intervention should you become seriously ill.

If you lose your legal capacity and need to go into residential care it will be easier if there is an enduring power of guardianship in place.  The person who has the power can make decisions about where you  live.

The Enduring Guardianship document must be on a prescribed form and must be signed by both the donor and the donee and witnessed by an authorised person such as a JP or lawyer.
